An appeal from Sheila Steele

There is no doubt that injusticebusters.com fills a public need. The Scandal of the Century story is the most well known of the injustices which have been publicized on this website and received wider media attention because of this exposure. Right now there are many more cases on this website and some of them are also working their way to the mass media. We also pick up stories from the mass media and keep them alive after the more

After keeping the website going for four years with no outside help, I am now asking for donations. I have opened a bank account at Scoiabank, in my name (Sheila Steele). The branch number is 40048, the institution number is 002 and the account number is 0054380. Any money deposited into that account will be used to maintain this website. Because of the hazards of owning a credit card, I am not able to get a Paypal account. This means that if you want to make a contribution, you have to go to a bank with the numbers highlighted in red above written down. That way, we both know you really meant to make the donation and weren't overcome by the high pressure of overwhelming feelings in the middle of the night as you read the stories on this site. (Many of our most committed visitors have contacted us after a few such nights.) Thank you in advance and please contact me if you have made a contribution. Or even if you haven't: it gets lonely out here in cyberspace!

Our address book has been lost several times during the past year and we were also forced to change our e-mail address when our server changed services.

I have renewed injusticebusters webspace for its fifth year. I pledge to continue publicizing cases of falsely accused, charged, convicted people who seek to clear their names and to continue to stand up for free speech.

The exercise of free speech has been a strong feature of the website since it was first launched. I defied the court-ordered publication bans to publish the names of the Ross children. This defiant act made it possible for the children who had been used by abusive authorities to come forward and tell the truth.

Common sense and common decency have governed our exercise of free speech on this website and we believe it has served as a model. Where seals or bans are laid down to protect shady careers and/or greedy ambition, we do not hesitate to spill the beans. By the same token we have no interest in character assassination or vendettas.

The amount of time I can devote to this will depend on the support I receive. So far, the response to my appeal has been heartening.

If you are new to the website, you may not be aware of the foster parent case in Saskatchewan for which we were the source for the year 2000 prize-winning fifth estate show "Scandal of the Century". Because we defied court-ordered publication bans, this story and Martensville have been kept in the public eye and not buried as the Saskatchewan government tried to keep them. From within the belly of the province which framed David Milgaard, it seems only fitting that a website like injusticebusters would spring.

It has become clear to me during four years of writing on the internet that humans who have been unjustly treated must have those injustices redressed, no matter how old the injustice may be. Simply put, the moment we become aware of such a wrong, we should set it right through financial compensation and full apology.

Those who have become wealthy by committing gross injustices should not be allowed to continue to profit from the inhumanity of themselves or their ancestors. To borrow a line from the "Millions for Reparations" website, there is no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity.

Ignorance does not justify inaction, any more than following orders has ever justified torture and inhumanity. When we becme aware of injustices which have occurred in the past or which are going on in the present tense, we are no longer ignorant. As humans we owe it to ourselves and each other to set right the wrongs we know about. We really cannot let ourselves off the hook with old saws like "those were different times" when "we didn't know any better." Once we know better, we must do better.

This website is committed to busting injustices through all the legal avenues which are available to us. The internet provides us unprecedented opportunities to publicize injustices and through such publicity, make possible their repair. It also provides us with forums to work out the complexities of these problems through free and open discussion. This website is also committed to promoting this discussion.
