The record of the Saskatchewan Party

January 8, 20004: Saskatchewan Party Justice critic Don Morgan(right) has been forthright and consistent in stating the government should settle with the Klassens and Kvellos. Lorne Calvert should get his butt back to Saskatoon. Although he won a majority in the November 5 election, and the NDP even increased its popular vote, Saskatchewan people are well aware that victory was arrived at through false promises -- and justice issues were not ever raised. David Forbes, who shares offices with Calvert, had already personally apologized to Klassen even before the election. And there are several other NDP MLAs who do not support the McKillop-driven intransigence which characterizes the government's public stand. When the legislature reconvenes -- and reconvene it must -- this is the issue which could bring it down. As we tried to tell them during our campout on the legislature lawn last summer.

In May, 2003, Saskatchewan Party Justice critic Ben Hepner invited Richard Klassen into the legislature during question period as he questioned Eric Cline, who was then the justice minister, regarding this case.

That exchange can be found here.

Shortly after the first airing of The Fifth Estate, leader Elwin Hermanson sent us this letter.

An election was held in November, 2003. The NDP won a majority. Elwin Hermanson resigned and a new leader is yet to be chosen.

The next sitting of the legislature has not been called. It will likely be called some tie in late March, we were told when we visited the Premier's constituency office last week.--Sheila Steele, January 18, 2004
